GE Vernova Rides The Power Rush

GE Vernova Inc.

GE Vernova showed up Wednesday with turbines, grid gear, and a year that suddenly looked a lot richer. The company reported first-quarter 2026 financial results before the market opened, then raised its full-year guidance after posting $18.3 billion of orders and $9.3 billion of revenue for the quarter. Shares surged nearly 14% as the market treated the report like fresh proof that GE Vernova is sitting in one of the most profitable lanes of the power buildout, a point that became even clearer once the order and backlog numbers were figured in.

GE Vernova said its Electrification segment booked $2.4 billion in equipment orders tied to data centers during the quarter, already exceeding the company’s full-year 2025 total for that category. Total backlog climbed by $13 billion sequentially to $163 billion, while gas power equipment backlog and slot reservation agreements rose from 83 gigawatts to 100 gigawatts. Management now expects that combined figure to reach at least 110 gigawatts by the end of 2026. And the order book was only part of the case, because the rest of the report showed the financial payoff is already starting to follow.

Adjusted EBITDA nearly doubled to about $0.9 billion, adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 390 basis points to 9.6%, and free cash flow reached $4.8 billion in the period. GE Vernova now expects 2026 revenue of $44.5 billion to $45.5 billion, adjusted EBITDA margin of 12% to 14%, and free cash flow of $6.5 billion to $7.5 billion. That gave the guidance raise real weight, because it suggested the order strength is already translating into better margins and cash generation.

There is still a weak spot in the picture, because wind revenue fell 23% in the quarter. But that was nowhere near enough to spoil the mood. The businesses driving the story right now are the ones feeding power demand from data centers, grid expansion, and gas generation, and GE Vernova looks increasingly like one of the clearest industrial options to own that theme. GE Vernova has already moved beyond promise and into payoff, and by the end of Wednesday, the market seemed to be treating it like one of the clearest industrial winners in the power buildout.
