Zebra Technologies Corporation

Zebra Technologies’ first-quarter report gave the humble barcode scanner new life on Wall Street. The company reported net sales of $1.495 billion, up 14.3% from a year earlier, while non-GAAP earnings rose 18.2% to $4.75 per share. Shares rose about 10% in late Tuesday trading, as Wall Street warmed to a business turning barcodes, handheld scanners, and warehouse automation into something a lot sharper than the nameplate might suggest.

The quarter’s cleanest signal came from broad demand across Zebra’s two main segments. Connected Frontline sales rose to $825 million from $684 million a year earlier, while Asset Visibility & Automation sales climbed to $670 million from $624 million. Organic net sales increased 4.3%, with growth in both segments and across regions. That distinction matters — acquisitions and currency helped the headline number, but the core business was moving too.

Underneath the sales rebound, Zebra also showed better earnings leverage. GAAP net income was nearly flat at $135 million, compared with $136 million a year earlier, but adjusted EBITDA rose 18.8% to $347 million and adjusted EBITDA margin improved to 23.2% from 22.3%. Gross margin also ticked up to 49.6%, helped by business mix, productivity initiatives, and favorable foreign currency. The point was not just that Zebra sold more equipment — it kept more of that momentum all the way down the income statement.

Zebra now expects full-year sales growth of 10% to 14%, non-GAAP earnings of $18.30 to $18.70 per share, adjusted EBITDA margin of about 22%, and free cash flow above $900 million. That outlook does not make Zebra the baddest automation stock on the screen, but it does make the company look suddenly relevant in a market hunting for industrial tech tied to e-commerce, automation, and what management calls "Physical AI." In a market chasing the future of automation, Zebra made the case that some of the most useful technology still starts with a beep.
