Reddit, Inc.

Reddit gave the market a quarter full of upvotes Friday, proving that conversations, chaos, and ad targeting can make a surprisingly profitable mix. The company reported first-quarter revenue of $663 million, up 69% from a year earlier, while net income reached $204 million and diluted earnings came in at $1.01 per share. Shares jumped over 12% after the report as Wall Street rewarded a quarter that turned Reddit’s messy comment-thread sprawl into a stronger case for growth, profit, and higher expectations.

The biggest signal came from advertising, where Reddit showed investors that its comment threads can be monetized without losing their edge. Ad revenue rose 74% to $625 million, while Reddit’s daily audience climbed 17% to 126.8 million unique users. Reddit also posted adjusted EBITDA of $266 million, equal to about 40% of revenue, and generated $311 million in free cash flow. For a company once better known for memes, moderators, and occasional internet chaos, that is a very grown-up income statement wearing a hoodie.

The next-quarter outlook gave the rally even more room to breathe. Reddit said it expects second-quarter revenue of $715 million to $725 million, with adjusted EBITDA of $285 million to $295 million. The company has been leaning into AI-powered advertising tools and better ad targeting, giving investors a sharper way to think about Reddit’s role in the digital ad market. The old pitch was that Reddit had the conversations. The new pitch is that it can turn those conversations into cash without sanding off what made the platform useful in the first place. Reddit still has to prove it can keep growing its audience, attracting advertisers, and improving monetization without making the site feel like a billboard wearing a username. But this quarter made the bull case easier to understand by showing Wall Street what happens when the comment section finds operating leverage.
