Meta Adds Manus To The Menu
Meta is closing out the year with a “New Year, new me” move, announcing it has acquiring AI startup Manus as it pushes advanced AI deeper across its apps and services. While the exact financial terms weren’t disclosed, the deal has been valued at over $2 billion. The short timeframe that the acquisition took place is also a clear indication that Meta is still in full sprint mode on AI, and investors treated the news as another sign the company intends to compete at the sharp end of the category.
What makes this deal especially interesting is what Manus is known for. Manus launched an “agent” style product that’s designed to carry out tasks with less hand-holding than a typical chatbot on March 6, 2025. Within a mere 6 months, the startup reached an annual recurring revenue of $100 million from it's subscription service, and now, being purchased by Meta. Clearly they were on to something special. Meta said it would use the acquisition to accelerate its broader AI efforts — including work tied to Meta AI. Meta isn’t just adding features, it’s adding capabilities that can turn “AI assistant” from a party trick into something users actually keep around after the demo. Manus stated in its own announcement that it’s joining Meta and intends to continue delivering its current services while accelerating product improvements. This is basically saying "same product, bigger gym membership". That matters to investors because it frames the acquisition less like a sudden shutdown and more like a scale-up moment — one where Meta can plug in distribution, compute, and product reach, while Manus keeps building what it’s known for. And yes, this is also the most Meta thing imaginable. If the internet is going to be flooded with AI "agents", Meta wants theirs showing up in the same place your aunt posts vacation photos and where your group chat debates dinner. Still, from an investor lens, it’s a clean narrative into 2026 — Meta is spending to stay ahead in AI, trying to make advanced tools mainstream, and signaling it’s not waiting around for the next platform shift to happen to it.
